In a recent survey conducted by IDP Education Canada, nearly 69 per cent of the respondents who were overseas students agreed that they would rather wait for their academic year to start. Study in Canada is the only sensible and wise option for them at a time when the world has been affected by Corona outbreak. Majority of respondents were from Asian countries. They insist that they want to study abroad. But they have to wait as there are travel restrictions in place. The 69 per cent are among the 6900 international students who plan to commence studies. Only minuscule 5 per cent of respondents felt they do not want to begin their studies. Overall, their study plans would not be affected as they felt that unlike classroom training, the online study lacks international exposure. In a press release, IDP Connect Chief Executive Officer Simon Emmett said 54 per cent are open to deferring their studies for a year before they decide to pursue other options. He said 31 per cent of them plan to start courses online. After that, they intend to opt for physical learning at a later date, i.e. by January 2021. On the other hand, it was IDP that recommended post-secondary institutions, to a vast extent, provide clarity. As per the survey, participants had to rank their chosen countries and rank them based on 1-10. Two of the preferable destinations were Canada and Australia. To a large extent, Canada was most favourable for international students due to the economic stability the country offers to every international student. Besides, the country has less prohibitive travel restrictions. How is Canadian administration helping students? To help international students, the administration has decided to increase working hours for specific occupations. It is allowing individuals to work for 40 hours from 20 hours earlier. Besides, it planned to open up CERB (Canada Emergency Response Benefit) that allots recipients with $2,000 per month. It was the administration under the aegis of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau initiating CESB (Canada Emergency Student Benefits) for the well-being of students. In a way, the Quebec province is planning to extend QEC (Quebec Acceptance Certificates) for those international students whose certificates are bound to expire before 31st December this year. About CESB As part of the initiative, the government is planning to start CESB (Canada Emergency Student Benefit) to both international students and Canadian students. Introduced a couple of months ago, the Student Benefit will allot eligible students with $1,750 as part of monthly income assistance.
